first day of WORK

Today was the start of my new job in Dallas. It was a new office but it was still with the same company. Yes…I was lucky enough in today’s state to get a transfer with the great company I worked for in Charlotte.

Last week at this time I was nervous about leaving my office in Charlotte. As it was a week filled with good-bye’s to all my coworkers and many vendors that I enjoyed working with on all the projects, as well as the office workplace I helped design. But after I made it through all the good-byes last Wednesday, we were going full steam ahead. I left work to host a fun Stella&Dot trunk show, picked up Gardner from the airport, and we headed up for several more hours of packing. Then on Thursday after packing the car with fine precision, we hit the road for Dallas.

As the hours passed by, I was progressively more excited about the challenge and adventures of a new city but I was sad to leave what I knew. It’s hard leaving familiar people + places.  But the great part is you know you will have great people to visit and return back to see.

Today I started my day with a beautiful, new route to work. It took me 20 minutes and 5 turns before I turned into the garage connected to the the new office tower I would be workign at. I walked with excitement. I was off to meet 110 new people and the opportunities to work on new projects. I arrived 15 minutes early to find a comfy seat in the lobby. During those few minutes I had the chance to catch up on emails and a little facebook. Meet me and my new office…..

My day was filled with orientation…..meetings with HR, IT, materials library. Then it was time for lunch. A lunch I was able to enjoy with my friend and new coworker, Amie Keener. Amie and I became friends during our studio days at Kansas State. So it is fun to be united again as coworkers. We enjoyed a delicious sushi lunch+caught up on life.

After lunch I had more orientation meetings set up with my new studio coordinator, project orientation, then the day ended with a monthly studio meeting. A few minutes before the meeting, I was asked to speak about a project I worked on for over 4 years in Charlotte. I was to speak 10-15 minutes. Ah….a room full of people staring back at me + the great project images. Then BAM….the first DAY in the office was over and it was time to go to our new little home!
