I received my VALENTINE’S day card in the mail a day early from my husband. He was happy to send me a simple little surprise in the mail. I asked him if he had bought the card because of our recent photo, and he said “NO….it was not on purpose”.

However the minute I saw the card, I immediately thought of the wonderful photos captured by the lovely Ginger Salmon, with her sweet post seen here. If you love her work, you must have the talented Lindsey Regan Thorne, do hair+makeup. Because without both of them, we would not have these great Charlotte photos to treasure as memories for many many years.

How more perfect could the cute Valentine’s day card be?  The kids + the message are a perfect reflection of us…..the past few months have certainly set us out ON THE ROAD OF LIFE. We have now been in the new city for almost 4 months, with our house finally being sold in Charlotte. So Dallas….here we come as more permanent peeps in the BIG CITY.

 

The Fashion of Jean Paul Gaultier

Our recent move to Dallas is proving to fulfill our lives with a richness of world class art + culture. Today’s outing to the Dallas Museum of Art to see Jean Paul Gaultier’s exhibit was pretty spectacular. We luckily arrived early to the museum before the actual opening, as the lines and crowds were miles long just a few hours into the day. Dallas is so fortunate to be the first of only two US cities to be on the international tour for “From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk”.  The exhibit will be leaving Dallas later this month, to travel to San Francisco for its next exhibition.

Jean Paul Gaultier is one of the most important fashion desingers in recent decades. The exhibition includes over 130 haute couture dresses, along with accessories {handbags + jewelry}, headpieces and shoes. It was a glorious visual stimulation for all fashion lovers and artists. The ability to view these pieces in person, showed the high detail, mix of materials, layering of patterns, which all help to create the full masterpiece show which was phenomenal. With a quick glance, you may see a leopard print, but up close you would see the hand stitched sequin detailing that proved it was a Jean Paul Gaultier special.

The exhibit was broken into 6 different galleries: The Odyssey of Jean Paul Gaultier, The Boudoir, Skindeep, Punk Cancan, Urban Jungle, and Metropolis. The pieces displayed ranged from the 1970’s to 2010, with many of them never being exhibited before. The exhibit also featured sketches, photographs and video clips. Another interesting add for this exhibition was 30 animated mannequins in costume who talk and sing, which added alot of life and personality to the fashion.

The costumes designed by Jean Paul Gaultier are wonderfully beautiful. If you have an opportunity to see this show while on tour, don’t pass it up. If you can’t make it, enjoy what I saw below:

The runway dress on the left was one of my favorites, as it was catwalk to boardwalk wearable. The shear material draped beautifully with the button detailing that was so “awe……lovely”.
Another favorite was the dress on the left, which had acetate strip film details. It was so unique and pure genuis with the detailed corset volumious shoulders flowing to the elegant skirt and long train.

One of the more visually stiumulated galleries included a live show continuous along the catwalk. It was crowded with people lined up one by one to get a glance of the garment “up close” as no understandment of detail and quality could be understood without that close viewing. If you have seen his work in person, you know what I am referring to.

fashion and F U R

 Walking around Vail Village is always fantastic. Its like we were swept off to a European country. As there are alot of different languages being spoken and the fashion + style is always the best as you walk through the narrow streets.  I almost feel like I am walking through a movieset, it is so perfect.

I especially love window shopping and then occasionally stepping inside of all the high end retail shops. Like the designer fur store above…the quality and details are impeccable and I can only dream. However there are so many new alternatives to the full FUR coat and this season is perfect for it. You can still get fur in your wardrobe within the details…..fur collars, fur boots, fur vests, fur leg warmers, fur on heels, fur hats, fur scarves, etc so the options are endless.

However a little fur accent goes along way so don’t overdo it but have fun with it, nonetheless.

 Another favorite from the mountain villages are all the ski l outdoor shops that are filled full with not only all the sporting equipment for skiing, but the fashion coats and accessories are multiplied. I was in heaven looking at all the great colors and varieties in the downfilled coats that you can see…..have a little fur hood detail. Which is soooooo cozy and perfect for those windy, cool winter days.

After the afternoon of shopping, we headed to a fun filled night at Beano’s Cabin. If you are ever in Beaver Creek, Co…..Beano’s is a must. Just know you have to make reservations and you meet in the village before being transported up to the cabin. In the winter, the ride to the top of the mountain was pretty chilly, to say the least. But the amazing views and landscape around overtook the coldness that we felt. Plus once you arrive, there are beautiful fireplaces in the restaurant and the food + wine from the 5 course dinner was unbelievably good.
